Tenor and viola |
| Programme note | ||
'Since', for tenor and viola, is a dramatic monologue for the voice. The viola stands behind the singer on the stage, and takes the role of his conscience. The musical language of the two is largely separate, with the tenor singing lines of almost Monteverdian simplicity, while the viola plays harsh, anguished phrases, using dissonant harmony (which is often derived from Monteverdi) and quarter-tones. |
